Are Private Label Rights And Resell Rights The Same Thing?

No they are not.

Many people are confused about the difference between private label rights and resell rights.

Although it’s understandable how these two terms can be confusing, they are not the same thing.

If you have Private Label Rights (PLR), you can typically edit the product however you see fit and alter it in whatever manner you choose to. You can rebrand it (i.e. put your own name as the author, or your company’s name on it as the creator. You can change the words, chapters, graphics, you can add new content to the product, break the product down into several different products, reformat it into different media (e.g. turn a book into web content or a powerpoint presentation, etc.) and pretty much do whatever you want with it (except resell the original, unmodified product).

If you have Resell Rights (RR or MRR – see below), you have the right to resell the product as is, as long as you comply with the terms and conditions set out in your license. This means that you cannot alter or edit the product in any way, and you cannot put your name on it as the author.

Private Label Rights

Having private label rights to a product generally gives you more freedom. PLR products also generally cost more to purchase the rights for. Some products give you options, such as purchasing either the resell rights or private label rights.

Many PLR products are also sold as a “White Label” PLR license, which allows you to brand the product as your own.

Typically, many private label rights products provide the buyer with personal rights only. This means that you can modify and use the product yourself, but you cannot resell it to your customers.

Generally speaking, you can also use your private label rights to modify products and then sell the resell rights of your “new” product to others, provided you significantly alter the product and put your name on it as the author. Always check the terms of your license, however, and if in doubt, contact the product creator to clarify your usage rights.

Resell Rights

There is a difference between resell rights and master resell rights:

  • Resell rights (RR) simply give you the right to resell the product, while …
  • Master resell rights (MRR) allow you to resell the product and the resell rights to others

Most of the products you will receive as a member of come with Private Label Rights. We do not offer resell rights to our training content.

Some of the bundled components come with Personal Use Rights only (e.g. videos that we originally purchased from other sources and include in the packages only give us the license to pass on personal rights to our customers, not PLR or resell rights).
